The Bank of Botswana has initiated a feasibility study to explore the possibility of implementing a central bank digital currency (CBDC). This evaluation is designed to determine the necessity for a CBDC and to analyze the potential risks associated with digital assets.
Ruth Baitshepi, the head of the digitalization and innovation hub at the bank, emphasized that the study will focus on understanding the implications of introducing a digital currency in the country.
